Scottish Golf:
Impact Documentary Video Series
.

Partnering with Scottish Golf to tell human stories that prove the impact of the game.

The Project at a Glance.

Client: Scottish Golf
Project type: Impact documentary video series
Deliverables: Two documentary films
Timeline: 3 months
Used for: Stakeholder communications, digital channels, participation and inclusion campaigns
Sectors: Sport / Third sector / Community

Walker Creative partnered with Scottish Golf - Scotland's national governing body for golf - to produce a documentary video series exploring the significant social impact the sport can have across diverse communities. From elderly care home residents rediscovering connection and physical activity, to individuals in substance-abuse recovery finding structure, purpose and belonging, the series set out to tell authentic human stories that demonstrated golf's wider role in Scottish society. Walker Creative led the full project from initial concept through to final delivery, shaping a documentary series built on trust, sensitivity and long-term strategic impact.

Scottish Golf wanted to communicate the wider social value of the sport beyond participation numbers and competition results - demonstrating real, human impact to stakeholders and the wider public.

The brief required a sensitive approach. Both featured communities (elderly care home residents and individuals in recovery from substance abuse) who deserved to be represented with dignity and honesty. The storytelling needed to feel authentic rather than promotional, and had to align carefully with Scottish Golf's broader participation and inclusion strategy.

The challenge was to capture meaningful personal transformation through documentary-led video production, while ensuring every participant felt safe, respected and fairly represented throughout the process.

The Challenge: Documentary Storytelling with Sensitivity and Purpose.

Authentic Stories.
Real Impact.

Documentary-led storytelling requires trust, sensitivity and strategic intent.

If you're developing content around athletes, sports programmes, or communities we can help shape the approach, as well as deliver the content.

Our Approach: Collaborative Sports Documentary Video Production.

As a sports documentary video production company working across Scotland and the UK, our focus from the outset was on authenticity over production gloss.

This included:

  • Liaising with care home coordinators

  • Managing permissions and safeguarding considerations

  • Structuring shoot days around participants and their schedules

  • Building trust with participants before ever setting up the cameras

We believe that strong production starts with a thorough pre-production process and collaborative work with all project stakeholders.

Full-Service Documentary Video Production for
Scottish Golf.

Walker Creative managed every stage of the documentary video production process, from initial story development through to final delivery:

  • Story development and interview design

  • On-location filming (including drone cinematography)

  • Conducting interviews with sensitivity and clarity

  • Capturing observational moments that added authenticity

  • Crafting the final edits to balance emotion and purpose

Visually, we leaned into natural light and considered pacing, allowing space for contributors to speak in a natural and comfortable way.

Shaping the Narrative.

Each film required its own emotional arc, whilst showcasing the impact of being involved with golf.

We developed interview frameworks designed to feel as natural as possible for the participants - encouraging them to reflect honestly. We guided contributors to speak about:

  • Loneliness, rediscovered community and forming new connections.

  • Positive physical and mental impact of renewed movement

  • How focussing on a sport aids recovery and rebuilding identity

Golf was the lens through which we looked at human connection.

The Outcome.

The completed documentary series gave Scottish Golf a body of powerful, authentic video content that communicated the sport's social impact in a way that statistics and reports simply can’t.

The films were deployed across Scottish Golf's digital channels and used in stakeholder communications to demonstrate the organisation's commitment to participation, inclusion and community wellbeing - supporting their broader funding and partnership conversations.

The series is a strong example of how documentary-led video production can help sports governing bodies and national organisations evidence their impact, engage diverse audiences and strengthen their reputation beyond the sporting arena.

Video For Sports Governing Bodies.

For sports governing bodies, balancing trust, participation and impact are essential. There’s also the requirement to align video content that aligns with their long-term goals.

Sports organisations increasingly require content that:

  • Humanises funded programmes

  • Demonstrates accountability

  • Engages partners and stakeholders

  • Inspires future athletes

  • Reflects organisational values

This project reflects our wider approach to sport video production in Scotland - strategic, respectful and grounded in authentic storytelling.

Documentary-style sports video production provides depth that highlight reels cannot.

By focusing on volunteers, athletes and everyone surrounding the sport’s eco-system as individuals, organisations can communicate culture, purpose and long-term vision.

This project with Scottish Golf reflects our wider approach to sport video production: strategic, respectful and grounded in authentic storytelling.
