Why You Need To Use Video For Your Next Event

What are the benefits of using video for your event?

Most people are already fully aware of the benefits that using video can bring to their organisation, but have you also thought about how using video can benefit your event?
The main way that video has traditionally been used to promote events is by creating event highlight videos. Highlights videos show the best moments of your event in a dynamic and exciting way, capturing the essence and flavour of your event. They are a fantastic way of showing the world what happened at your event and just how good it was, helping attendees to relive the day and form an emotional connection with your event, whilst showing others what they missed out on.

Aside from a highlights video, there are many other ways that video can be used to benefit your event. We’ve compiled a list below:

1. Use an event video to extend the reach and life of your event beyond the day

Using video enables you to extend the life of your event beyond the day itself. It also allows you to reach a much wider audience. TED Talks are a great example of this. The in-person audiences for their talks vary in size from 10s to 1000s, but those numbers pale in comparison to the millions that their videos often reach on Youtube. No matter how great an event organiser you are, it’s very unlikely that your event could hope to attract those numbers in person. But by filming key talks and interesting sections and putting them online, you have that possibility. You can also reach audiences across the world - not just those there on the day.

2. Create valuable, educational and insightful video content that can be enjoyed for a long time to come

There is so much content that can be captured in 1 single day. Aside from your highlights video, you could have short video snippets showing certain parts of the day or clips from insightful interviews as great content to post on your socials as a way to increase interest and drive more traffic to your website. If your event has any talks, workshops or other educational sessions, these could be filmed entirely to create a library of video content that people can rewatch whenever they like.

For example, we filmed a series of talks for EventIt, during their annual Edinburgh event at The Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Delivered by industry leaders and experts, the talks provide valuable thought leadership and insight on a variety of topics and are now being hosted online and shown at a variety of hybrid events.

Remember, it’s all about providing value to your audience, and what better way to do this than having a library of content on a topic they’re interested in?

You will also come away from the day with a bank of high-quality and beautifully shot footage that can be used in your future marketing campaigns. Whether it’s used to make a promotional video for your company or it’s incorporated into a website banner video, you can be sure that the footage will help you achieve your marketing goals.

3. Raise brand awareness, connect with your audience and position yourself as an expert

There are so many different kinds of interesting and valuable video content that can be created from an event (see previous section) and once you’ve created it, it’s time to use it for your benefit.

Creating interesting content for social posts can be tricky and planning enough content for the following weeks and months can be a burden for many. This problem can be solved with all the lovely new content you can create at your next event.

This video content can then be pushed out through your website, email marketing, and social platforms over a long period of time to keep your audience engaged with your brand and raise your public profile. It will also help to build a strong connection with your audience. Insightful and interesting video content will help to establish you as an expert in your field.

4. Use video to help sell tickets for future events

Having a highlights video (or several) can undoubtedly help boost sales for next year’s event. It can help potential attendees get an idea of what to expect and what your event is all about. This is even more important when it comes to music and entertainment events, where the atmosphere is paramount.

Another way you can use video to sell your event is through testimonials. Sometimes, testimonial videos can be difficult to organise. Getting the right people to give up their time, organising the right location, and so on. However, what better opportunity to gather people’s opinions and praise on camera than at an event?

Sharing the magic of your event through a video is a great way to sell tickets for your future events.

5. You can discover details you didn’t notice during the event

Event videos don’t have to be all about your audience. They can also be for you, the organiser. One piece of feedback we receive regularly is that the organisers discovered details in the event videos they didn’t notice during the event itself.

So, that’s it. 5 of our top ways in which you can use video to benefit your next event!
